special relativity - Explaining to an 8-year-old why nothing can travel faster than light

It is a well known fact, that nothing can travel faster than light. I have discussed that fun fact numerous times with my 8 year old son. One day he asked "why?", and I realized that I didn't know the answer myself. So... Why is the speed of light the upper speed limit of everything?

Can it be explained in a way that an 8 year old can understand?
