If we have
(νeνμντ)=(Ue1Ue2Ue3Uμ1Uμ2Uμ3Uτ1Uτ2Uτ3)(ν1ν2ν3),
then why are flavour eigenstates expressed using the complex conjugated elements of the PMNS matrix:
|να⟩=3∑i=1U∗αi|νi⟩,
(where α=e, μ, τ) rather than |να⟩=3∑i=1Uαi|νi⟩,
as suggested by (1). Wouldn't it make more sense to define the PMNS matrix as its complex conjugate in the first place?
