quantum mechanics - Are electrons in different energy levels considered identical?


In QM we require that the state that describes the system, an atom say, be symmetric or antisymmetric under permuting the identical particles.


What identical particles are we talking about here, all electrons in an atom? or only electrons that belong to the same energy level (degenerate electrons)?
