classical mechanics - Wave equation: $y=A sin(omega t-kx)$ or $y=Asin(kx-omega t)$?

What is correct wave equation: $y=A \sin(\omega t-kx)$ or $y=A\sin(kx-\omega t)$?

How are these wave equations used in the positive $x$-direction and negative $x$-direction?
